TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY - MAIN GALLERY

TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY is pleased to announce Tomohiro Kato’s solo exhibition, for the first time in about two years.
Working consistently with iron as his primary material, Kato has developed a distinctive sculptural practice. In this exhibition, he presents new works from his signature anonymous series, featuring bust motifs.

Artist / Brand

Tomohiro Kato

Born in Tokyo, in 1981. Completed a master’s degree at Tama Art University (department of ceramic, glass, and metal works). Trying to define the borderline in society by using metal. Recently working on a series named “anonymous” in which Kato scans the people who have criminal history or weapons with 3D scanners and form a complicated iron structure that has the burly and strong mood of iron and visual effects caused by this unique structure. Also, Kato is working on a series called “iron oxide painting” in which he uses original paint made of medium with crushed oxide iron and it is hard to define if it is a real iron or not. As it is described as mimicking iron itself. Kato is currently working on these two series.

Gallery

TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY - MAIN GALLERY

Established in 1992 in Tezukayama, Osaka, the gallery relocated to its current space in Minami-Horie in March 2010. We represent contemporary artists from the United States, Europe, and Asia, with a recent focus on actively promoting emerging Japanese talent. In our exhibition space, we curate solo and group exhibitions of our represented artists while also participating extensively in international art fairs across Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Through a diverse range of exhibitions and related events, we strive to energize the Osaka art scene.

In April 2016, we opened a new space called the "Viewing Room." In this more relaxed setting, visitors can appreciate a selection of works by our artists outside of current exhibitions, as well as pieces from the gallery's private collection.
