If we say that "seeing" is light forming images within us, then what form exists before "being able to see"?
Visual perception and the cognition that relies on it are made possible by the workings of light. In this exhibition, Okamoto, who has consistently treated the photographic medium as "recording of light" (= photography), presents the "mystery of how light reveals things to us."

Using effectively his original method ‘photo brush’, Akira Okamoto have been making paintings like optics experiments.Drawing lights on photographic papers like this achieves a distinctive clarity and a sharpness. And they are difficult to be achieved by the paintings made only from paint materials.By regarding photo developing process as painting, Okamotoshows new aspects of photographic materials and new possibilities of paintings.
Yoshiaki Inoue Gallery
Yoshiaki Inoue Gallery opened in 1989 as a gallery showcasing contemporary works of art. It introduces Japanese and overseas artists such as Hiroto Kitagawa, Robert Kushner, and photographer Toshio Shibata. Through an encounter with the family of the late Jiro Yoshihara, the founder of the Gutai Art Association, the gallery has held solo exhibits by Jiro Yoshihara, Michio Yoshihara, Sadamasa Motonaga, Shozo Shimamoto, and Takesada Matsutani.
