In the same year that the International Exposition will be held in Osaka for the second time, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts will reopen after undergoing a complete renovation for the first time since its opening in 1936.

This exhibition was planned to coincide with these two commemorative events, and aims to provide an opportunity to deepen understanding of Japanese culture beyond national and regional boundaries by “encountering” and sharing the excitement of these rare treasures called “national treasures”.

Osaka Museum of Fine Arts

Osaka Museum of Fine Arts opened in 1936 as the third public art museum in Japan. The main building became a registered tangible cultural property in 2015 as a rare example of a large prewar art museum. The museum's collection of approximately 8,700 objects includes a wide variety of paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, and crafts, and is particularly notable for its collection of Chinese and Japanese art by business figures active in the Kansai region.
